в теории Гештальт-терапии это слово обозначает не отдельную сущность (что можно сказать о "Я" в психоанализе), а процесс, состоящий из совокупности проявлений человека на границе-контакт между организмом и окружающей его средой и позволяющий осуществиться творческому приспособлению. Так, в некоторых ситуациях интенсивность self может падать (например, в моменты конфлуэнции). Теория self представляет собой исследование, сделанное Гудманом 35 лет назад на основе рабочих записей Перлза.
